National Guardsman Killed in Harris County Single-Vehicle Crash

HARRIS COUNTY, GA. – July 26, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a National Guardsman from Tennessee was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Harris County, Georgia.*

37-year-old Joshua E. Williams, of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling through Harris County. The driver of the vehicle somehow lost control and crashed. Williams died on the scene, as did one other person in the vehicle (it is not clear from reports whether this person, who has not been identified, was the driver of the vehicle or another passenger in the vehicle). 

Williams was a member of the National Guard and on active orders in Harris County. He served three overseas deployments during his career in the National Guard and was a staff sergeant at the time of his death. 

Williams’ family is asking members of the community in Lawrenceburg to line the streets when his body is returned home. The date this will take place and details about the planned procession will be released soon. 

The Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the collision and has not yet released additional information. It is not clear what caused the accident to occur or whether any charges will be filed. 

Harris County is located on the western border of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of approximately 34,000, and its major roadways include Interstate 85, Interstate 185, and U.S. Route 27. According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, 453 vehicle accidents occurred in Harris County in 2016. These accidents led to 183 injuries and nine deaths.
