Georgia Trucker Cited for Causing Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash in Florida

August 02, 2018

OCALA, FL. – July 26, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a Georgia truck driver has been cited for causing a multi-vehicle accident last year that resulted in the death of one person in Florida.*

Shortly before midnight, Sung Il Lee, 55, of Georgia, was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 outside of Ocala, Florida. Near mile marker 338, about two miles south of County Road 484, traffic was stopped because of a vehicle accident. Lee approached the area where traffic was stopped but failed to brake. He drove off of the roadway, hit a guardrail, and sideswiped a minivan and a FedEx truck. Lee also struck six other commercial and non-commercial vehicles before his truck finally came to a stop.

The driver of one of the eight vehicles Lee crashed into died at the scene. A Marion County Fire Rescue paramedic pronounced 25-year-old Jarrett Joseph Tereskun dead at 12:03 a.m. Several other people, including Lee, were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center and Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala and UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida, for treatment of unknown injuries. None of the other people involved was identified.

Officials with Macon County Fire Rescue said about 450 gallons of fuel spilled onto the interstate the night of the crash, and Florida Highway Patrol estimated damage to the nine vehicles involved totaled almost $270,000.

Lee has now been cited by Florida State Patrol for careless driving and failure to maintain control of his vehicle. Alcohol and drug tests performed for Lee after the crash were negative. Court records show Lee is scheduled to appear in court on September 4.
