Four People Killed in Vehicle Collision in Bartow County, Georgia

BARTOW COUNTY, GA. – July 28, 2018 (wdef.com) According to an online news story from wdef.com, four people died in a vehicle collision July 27 in Bartow County, Georgia, including a 6-year-old boy. 

Authorities indicate the vehicle accident occurred in Cartersville, Georgia, when a car ran a stop sign and crashed into a pickup truck. Four people were inside the car: 36-year-old Richie Williams, of Adairsville, Georgia; 41-year-old Shannon Hartsfield, of Cartersville; 53-year-old Nancy Evans, of Acworth, Georgia; and a 6-year-old boy. All four people in the car died of their injuries, including the 6-year-old boy, whose name has not been released. 

There were three people inside the truck, all of whom were transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. None of the people in the truck has been identified at this time. 

Bartow County authorities are continuing to investigate the collision and have not yet released additional information. It is not clear where exactly the crash took place.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, vehicle crashes in the United States are the leading cause of death for children ages 2 to 14 years. As cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 663 children ages 12 and younger died in motor vehicle accidents in 2015. In 2014, more than 121,000 children 12 years or younger were injured in vehicle accidents. 

In addition, a news report from NPR indicates 20 percent of children involved in serious car accidents between 2010 and 2014 were not properly restrained or were not wearing a seat belt. More than 40 percent of children who died in vehicle accidents from 2010 to 2014 were not properly restrained or were not wearing a seat belt.
