Woman Dies When Vehicle Hit by Accident Debris in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO. – July 23, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a woman died July 23 in St. Louis, Missouri, when her vehicle was struck by falling concrete from another vehicle accident.* 

Police indicate a 22-year-old woman was driving a white sedan on a St. Louis bridge and lost control of her vehicle. She crashed into a concrete barrier and dislodged a 1-ton piece of concrete, which fell to the roadway below and struck a black Tesla sedan. St. Louis Police Lt. Paul Lauer called the incident “a very freak accident.” 

The woman driving the Tesla, who has not been identified, died instantly. The condition of the woman driving the white sedan, who has also not been identified, is unknown. 

Following the impact of the concrete on the Tesla, a white SUV rear-ended the Tesla. No injuries were reported to this driver. 

An investigation into the accident is ongoing. It is not clear what caused the driver of the white sedan to lose control or whether anything was wrong with the concrete barrier she hit. Authorities have not released additional information has been released at this time. 

According to data from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, a total of 34,439 fatal vehicle crashes occurred in the United States in 2016. These accidents resulted in the deaths of 37,461 people. The fatalities averaged 11.6 per 100,000 people and 1.16 per every 100 million miles traveled in the United States. Missouri’s 2016 fatality rates, according to the IIHS data, were 15.5 deaths per every 100,000 people and 1.25 deaths per every 100 million miles traveled.
