Emergency Vehicles Responding to Crash on Highway 27 in Summerville, Georgia

SUMMERVILLE, GA. – July 23, 2018 (thesummervillenews.com) According to an online news report from thesummervillenews.com, emergency vehicles were responding to a two-vehicle crash July 23 on Highway 27 near Summerville, Georgia.*

The crash occurred on Highway 27 near Taylor’s Ridge, south of Summerville. Both of the vehicles were allegedly cleared from the roadway and pulled into the lot of the chert pit near the Georgia Forestry office. At least one person was injured, complaining of back pain. It is not clear whether this person was transported to a medical facility for treatment or was treated at the scene.

No information regarding the cause or circumstances of the accident was reported, and none of the people involved has been identified. Investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available at this time. 

Summerville is located in Chattooga County in the northwest corner of the state of Georgia. The county has an estimated population of 25,000 and is adjacent to Floyd County and DeKalb County. 

According to information compiled by the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the number of vehicle accidents occurring in Chattooga County had held relatively steady during the last several years. In 2012, 525 vehicle accidents occurred in the county, leading to 183 injuries and five deaths. In 2013, the numbers rose slightly to 544 total accidents, 185 injuries, and five deaths. 

The county’s accident numbers remained largely the same in 2014 and 2015 — around 545 accidents, 180 injuries, and four deaths. In 2016, the number of accidents in Chattooga County increased to 579, from which 210 people were injured, and seven people died.
