Acworth Man Charged in April Cherokee County Fatality Accident

CHEROKEE COUNTY, GA. – July 23, 2018 (patch.com) A man from Acworth, Georgia, has been charged in connection with a fatality vehicle accident that occurred in April 2018 in Cherokee County, Georgia. The story is reported at patch.com.*

Shortly before midnight on April 13, 2018, 27-year-old Paul Allen Barnes (then 26 years old), of Acworth, was driving a Jeep Wrangler on Highway 92 in Cherokee County. Barnes crashed the Jeep, and it overturned just west of Wade Green Road. Both Barnes and 22-year-old Jerry Nikkole Acklin, a passenger in the Jeep, were ejected from the vehicle. 

Barnes and Acklin were both transported to area hospitals for treatment, and Acklin died from her injuries six days later, on April 19. 

The Traffic Enforcement Unit of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office conducted a toxicology analysis and submitted the test results to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. Upon receipt of the results and completion of a preliminary investigation, authorities arrested Barnes on July 21. He is charged with driving under the influence, vehicular homicide in the first degree, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, seat belt violation, and possession of a controlled substance. 

Barnes was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and later released on bond in the amount of $16,906. 


An obituary for Jerry Nikkole Acklin says she was beloved and adored by her family and was devoted to animals, having a special passion for horses. She is described as a “gorgeous girl” with a “gypsy soul.”
