90-Year-Old Man, 11-Year-Old Boy Die in Albany Car Crash

July 27, 2018

ALBANY, GA. – July 22, 2018 ( A 90-year-old man and an 11-year-old boy are dead after a head-on vehicle collision in Albany, Georgia. A story on reports that the 90-year-old man caused the collision.*

Authorities say the collision occurred at approximately 11:30 p.m. on July 21 in the 1700 block of Moultrie Road in East Albany. According to reports from police, 90-year-old Ulysses Brown was driving eastbound on Moultrie Road and crossed the centerline of the roadway, colliding head-on with a westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle flipped and came to a stop on its roof.

The Dougherty County Coroner pronounced Brown dead at the scene. Four people were inside the westbound vehicle at the time of the crash, including a mother and her three children. The mother, identified as Rocio Contreras, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and her children were also transported to hospitals. Two of the children are in critical condition, and her 11-year-old son tragically died of his injuries.

At this time, authorities believe Brown might have suffered a medical emergency, which caused him to cross the centerline of the road. He had a few medical conditions that might have been the cause, but those conditions were not described. Officials said Brown had no known reason to be driving in the area, so they are trying to ascertain exactly what happened. They believe speed might have also been a factor. Dougherty County EMS, the Albany Police Department, and the Albany Fire Department all responded to the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time. Because Brown died in the collision, no charges will be filed.
