Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Cobb County at Intersection of Cobb Gallery Parkway, Akers Mill Road

COBB COUNTY, GA- reports that a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with another vehicle on Tuesday, July 17, 2018. The victim, 30-year-old Peter Bullard from Snellville, was involved in an accident that occurred at the intersection of Cobb Gallery Parkway and Akers Mill Road at about 7:30 p.m.*

The driver of the other vehicle, Deborah Schleicher, 52, was traveling in a 2017 Porsche Cayenne. Schleicher sustained injuries in the collision and was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital. 

According to investigators, Bullard was riding a 2008 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle westbound on Akers Mill Road. Schleicher was driving southbound on Cobb Galleria Parkway and entered the intersection with Akers Mill Road where she reportedly entered the path of Bullard’s motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the left-hand side of the Cayenne, and the motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and onto the hood of the Cayenne before falling into the road. 

Police are still investigating the cause of the collision and have not yet determined which driver had the green light and right-of-way at the time of the crash. 

Motorcycle deaths make up about 10% of the totaltraffic fatalities in Georgia. The number of people killed in motorcycle accidentsin the state has been steadily rising every year. In 2017, 208 motorcyclists were killed as compared to 2016 when 173 motorcycle deaths occurred. According to projections, 264 motorcyclists could be killed on Georgia roadways in 2018. 

It is important for motorcyclists to use helmets when they ride. Georgia motorcycle data indicates that about 96 lives were saved by helmets last yearand that more lives could be spared if helmets were used universally among the motorcycle community.
