One Dead, Two Injured in Vehicle Crash in Floyd County, Georgia

FLOYD COUNTY, GA. – July 17, 2018 ( As reported by an online story on, one person is dead and two people are injured after a July 17 vehicle crash in Floyd County, Georgia.*

According to the Floyd County Police Department, the accident occurred around noon on July 17 on Kingston Highway. A Toyota truck reportedly crashed near Mizpah Church. The driver died from his or her injuries, and two passengers in the vehicle were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment. They are reportedly in serious condition.

The driver and two passengers have not been identified at this time, as police are attempting to contact next of kin. It is not clear how the accident occurred, and it does not appear that any other vehicles or people were involved. Floyd County Police officers are continuing to investigate the collision and have not yet released additional details to the public. 

Floyd County is located in the northwestern corner of the state of Georgia. Approximately 97,000 people live in the county, and its major roadways include U.S. Route 27 and U.S. Route 411.

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, a total of 3,871 vehicle accidents occurred in Floyd County in 2016. These accidents resulted in injuries to 993 people and in the deaths of 18 people. The year 2016 represents the highest number of vehicle accidents in the county during a five-year period studied by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. The lowest number of accidents occurred in 2013, with 3,235 total accidents, leading to 827 injures and 16 deaths.
