Driver Charged After Serious Vehicle Accident in Bartow County, Georgia

BARTOW COUNTY, GA. – July 14, 2018 (patch.com) According to an online news report from patch.com, the driver who caused a serious vehicle accident July 9 in Bartow County is now facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence.*

On the night of July 9, 29-year-old Joshua Michael Barrett, of Woodstock, Georgia, was driving a 2018 Tesla Model 3 northbound on Interstate 75 in Bartow County, Georgia. He was in the center lane of the interstate and abruptly changed to the left lane, where he tailed a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche. 

Barrett struck the rear of the Avalanche and veered off the west shoulder of the interstate. He then traveled back onto the roadway, spun clockwise across all lanes of traffic, and stopped, facing north on the east shoulder. The Avalanche, driven by 52-year-old James Otis Hester, of Cartersville, Georgia, overturned and came to a rest, facing south on the east shoulder of the interstate. 

Hester was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. His current medical condition is not known. Barrett was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for treatment and then transferred to police custody. He was booked in the Bartow County Jail in the early hours of July 10, where he was depicted smiling in his mug shot. Barrett was then released on bail July 12. 

He is now facing charges of driving under the influence, driving too fast for conditions, following too closely, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving, possession of open container in vehicle passenger area, serious injury by vehicle, possession of a controlled substance, and possession and use of drug-related object.
