Driver Charged in Newnan Fatality Accident

NEWNAN, GA. – July 10, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a man from Newnan, Georgia, is facing criminal charges in connection with a fatal vehicle accident.*

On June 30, Jeremy Len Head, 29, was driving a pickup truck and collided with a Pontiac sedan driven by 26-year-old Ashley Michelle Newby, of Newnan. The crash occurred on Pea Ridge Road near Heard Elementary School in Newnan. Newby’s vehicle traveled off of the road and crashed into a line of pine trees, according to the Georgia State Patrol. She was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

Authorities have disclosed limited information regarding the nature and circumstances of the crash but say Head was responsible. He was taken into police custody and is now being charged with tampering with evidence, driving without a license, and failure to report an accident with injuries. He is being held in the Heard County Jail on an $80,000 bond. 

The crash is still under investigation by Georgia authorities, including the Specialized Crash Reconstruction Team with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. No additional information has been released at this time. 

Heard County is located on the western border of the State of Georgia. Compared with surrounding counties, Heard County is the site of a smaller number of vehicle accidents each year. In 2016, according to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, Heard County saw a total of 222 vehicle accidents. This was the highest number of accidents in the county from 2012 to 2016. These accidents led to 67 injuries and four deaths.
