Bond Denied Again for Driver Suspected of Causing Multi-Vehicle Hit and Run Wreck

July 11, 2018

Savannah, GA - (WSAV) According to a news report on WSAV, a man who is alleged to have fled the scene of a multi-vehicle crash last month did not get released on bond after his most recent hearing in front of Judge Steven Scheer. The man had also been denied bond after a previous hearing.

The multi-vehicle wreck happened on March 29, 2018, on Highway 80. The chain-reaction crash started when a white Chevy truck collided with a Nissan truck. The force of the impact sent the Nissan truck careening across the median. As it crossed the median, the Nissan truck flipped over, and then it collided with an SUV. The crash injured three people and caused hours of traffic delays in the area around the accident scene.

John Richard is the man who is alleged to have been driving the white truck. After the wreck, he left his vehicle and fled the scene. After Richard had been on the run for a few days, he turned himself in to authorities on April 2. Richard is charged with felony hit-and-run, in addition to other charges related to the crash.

The judge who denied Richard’s bond after this most recent hearing based his denial on a previous felony conviction as well as Richard’s actions in fleeing the accident scene and evading arrest, all of which would create a risk to the community if he were released. Despite this second denial of bond, Richard’s attorney remains confident that the case against his client has many weaknesses, and that once all of the facts are revealed, it will be clear that his client was mischarged or overcharged regarding any role he may have played in the March 29 accident.
