July 09, 2018

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA. – July 7, 2018 (wtoc.com) A former Effingham County Rebel football star was tragically killed July 7 in a motorcycle accident, according to an online report from wtoc.com.*

Georgia State Patrol reports 18-year-old Demonte Lee was involved in a wreck July 7 on Kildee Lane in the Countryside Village mobile home park. Lee was riding a motorcycle and sustained critical injuries after a collision that involved a car. It is not clear how the accident occurred, but officials say the driver of the car, who has not been identified, was at fault.

According to another report by savannahnow.com, the vehicle was a small sedan, and the driver turned out in front of Lee. Lee was reportedly not wearing a helmet and crashed into a power pole.

Lee was transported to Memorial Hospital in Savannah, where he died of his injuries. He was a recent graduate of Effingham County High School where he was a standout running back for the Rebel football team. In a post on social media, the Effingham football team said Lee’s death was “[t]ragic news for [the] Rebel Football family.” The post asked people to keep Lee, who wore the number 3 jersey for the team, and Lee’s family in their prayers.

The driver of the car was not injured. The reconstruction team for the Georgia State Patrol is currently still investigating the collision and has not released additional information at this time. No information has yet been released about whether the driver of the car will be cited or charged in connection with Lee’s death.
