Car Crashes Through Wall of DeKalb County School in Dekalb County, Georgia

DEKALB COUNTY, GA. – July 1, 2018 ( According to an online news report from, a car crashed through the wall of a Dekalb County, Georgia, elementary school on June 30. It is not clear what caused the accident to occur.*

The incident occurred on the evening of June 30 when a driver crashed through one of the front brick walls of Redan Elementary School on South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road in Lithonia, Georgia. The car went half-way into the school through the wall before coming to a stop. In pictures that almost do not look real, a Kia sedan is seen hanging halfway out of a brick wall near a set of the school’s doors. Inside the doorway, debris and rubble are pictured all over the floor. 

The vehicle was removed sometime on Sunday, and as of Monday, the hold had been boarded up with plywood and tape. The school sustained substantial damage, and permanent repairs are reportedly underway. The driver has not been identified at this time, and it is not clear whether anyone, including the driver, was injured in the crash. The cause of the accident is not yet known. Authorities in DeKalb County are continuing to investigate the crash and have not released additional information at this time. 

Redan Elementary School instructs students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. The school was originally built in the early 1900s and has grown through the years to include three buildings. The school wrapped up its 2017-2018 year on May 24 and will begin classes again on August 6.
