Driver Charged With DUI After Hitting UTV, Injuring 3 Children in Burke County, Georgia

BURKE COUNTY, GA. – July 2, 2018 ( According to an online report from, a woman has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence after she struck a UTV with her car in Burke County, Georgia. Three children on the UTV were injured.*

Sometime on June 30, three children — a 13-year-old boy, a 12-year-old boy, and a 9-year-old girl — were riding on a side-by-side UTV at the end of their yard in Burke County. Their parents were supervising and said the UTV was not in the roadway. Suddenly, a vehicle on the road struck the UTV. All three children were injured in the crash. Initial reports indicated one child was in critical condition, and the other two were seriously injured. 

Updated reports, however, state that the 9-year-old girl broke her elbow, and the two boys sustained bruises and lacerations. All three children were reported to be in stable condition as of July 2. 

The driver of the vehicle that struck the UTV, Amanda Holsomback, was arrested following the crash. She has been charged with driving under the influence, driving too fast for conditions, and driving while unlicensed. Georgia State Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident and has not released additional information at this time. 

According to data from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, traffic-related accidents in Burke County almost doubled from 2015 to 2016. In 2015, 371 crashed occurred in the county, leading to 137 injuries and three fatalities. The following year, the number of crashes jumped to 661. The crashes in 2016 resulted in 150 injuries and eight fatalities.
