The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. on June 16 near mile marker 404 on Interstate 75. Antonia Carvalho de Sousa Palma, 37, of Acworth, Georgia, was driving southbound on I-75 in a 1999 Nissan Pathfinder and swerved to avoid another vehicle. Florida Highway Patrol reports that a white BMW moved from the outside lane of I-75 South to the inside lane without using due caution. Palma’s vehicle overturned.

Palma died at the scene. Two passengers in her vehicle, 56-year-old Paulo Palma and an eight-year-old female, were transported to UF Health Shands in Gainesville for treatment of minor injuries.

The driver of a 2017 Lexus GX 460, 64-year-old Ronny Yung, of Lisle, Illinois, was also traveling south on I-75 and swerved to avoid the same BMW. Yung’s vehicle crashed into a guardrail, but he and his two passengers were not injured.

Florida State Patrol Troopers issued an alert about the white BMW, but they have not yet received any leads. They are continuing to investigate the accident and have not released additional information at this time.

A GoFundMe page has been created by loved ones of Palma asking for contributions to reunite her family in Brazil. The page says Palma and her family were on their way to Orlando, Florida, to celebrate her daughter’s birthday at the time of the crash. Palma was “always energetic, caring and determined,” the page says. “Her strong personality brought motivation and confidence to those around. Her giving spirit was a light to our lives and she will be missed terribly.” The page also encourages anyone with information about the BMW to contact Florida Highway Patrol.
