Accident in Habersham County Causes Drivers to be Extricated from their Vehicles
HABERSHAM COUNTY, GA – June 23, 2018 (ajc.com). According to an online news report at ajc.com, a head on collision occurred in Habersham County, Georgia causing one driver to be removed from their vehicle, per authorities.*
The crash occurred on Georgia Highway 115 west close to Habersham Mills Road, per a Habersham County Emergency Services news release.
A Kia Optima was going west on the wrong side of the roadway, which resulted in a head on collision with a Chevy, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Per witnesses on the scene, they have indicated to the Georgia State Patrol that a Kia passed another car on a double yellow line on Georgia 115 and kept going the wrong way. Blaine Weaver, the Kia driver, aged twenty nine, from Demorest, was severely injured in the crash.
The driver of the Chevy, Deborah Cook, aged fifty six, from Cornelia, Georgia, sustained injuries but they were not life threatening.
One of the drivers required a window in the rear of the car to be broken so emergency personnel could extricate him or her, per the Habersham EMS release. It took nearly forty five minutes to remove the other driver given the extent of the wreckage and associated injuries. One of the drivers was airlifted to an area hospital for treatment. The other driver was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.
The Georgia State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the incident. Charges are pending, GSP said.
