Georgia State Fire Marshall Investigating Woman’s Injury on Lake Winnie Ride
LAKE WINNIE, GA – June 12, 2018 (wrcbtv.com). According to an online news report at wrcbtv.com, the Georgia State Fire Marshall is currently investigating an accident involving a woman who was injured on a ride at Lake Winnie.*
State investigative teams are examining an incident where a woman feel from a ride at Lake Winnie this past weekend. The woman, aged forty two, sustained injuries and as a result, had to have surgery on Monday, June 11, 2018.
Per the investigation, the woman, who is expected to recover, was on a roller coaster called the “Wild Lightning” from which she fell and sustained serious injuries.
The Wild Lightening, created in 2001, is the most recent roller coaster at Lake Winnie. According to the park’s website, the roller coaster is "a wild coaster ride aboard rails of steel that takes guests through twists, hairpin turns, drops, and curves like nothing else on earth."
The roller coaster was inspected back in April and no violations were recorded that were associated with the ride.
The incident occurred around 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 10, 2018. It is not clear at this time how the woman fell off of the ride and how far she fell. At the time paramedics came to the scene, the woman was alert and conscious but transported to an area hospital for evaluation.
It is reported that the woman sustained a broker shoulder and as a result, required surgery. She is currently in fair condition.
The incident is currently being investigated. The last time injuries were sustained at the park was when two boys became injured on the park’s Fly-o-Plane ride. The state investigators were unable to ascertain fault in that case.
A spokesperson for Lake Winnie declined our request for an interview, only saying the incident is under investigation.
