May 27, 2018

COWETA COUNTY, GA. – May 22, 2018 ( As reported by, Coweta County, Georgia, authorities arrested a woman who crashed her vehicle into a playground following a high-speed chase.*

Shortly before midnight on May 16, Coweta County Sheriff’s Officers stopped 25-year-old Phyllis Teegarden because her SUV’s tail lights were not working. Teegarden fled the scene, and deputies followed her. A high-speed chase ensued, and Teegarden eventually crashed through a fence and into a playground near Magnolia Street and Haralson.

Following the crash, deputies discovered syringes and methamphetamine in Teegarden’s wrecked vehicle, as well as a credit card, checkbook, and driver’s license belonging to someone other than Teegarden. It appears the credit card, checkbook, and driver’s license were stolen. Teegarden admitted she had warrants outstanding at the time, and deputies found she indeed had warrants for her arrest out in Meriwether and Senoia counties.

A passenger was in the vehicle with Teegarden at the time of the chase and crash, whom authorities initially detained but ultimately let go. It does not appear that he was injured in the crash. Teegarden was arrested and taken to the Coweta County jail, where she is being held without bond. Charges have not yet been filed against Teegarden in connection with the chase or possession of drugs, drug paraphernalia, and stolen property.

Deputies contacted the owner of the stolen items found in Teegarden’s car and told her to file a police report in case her card or checks had been used inappropriately. No other injuries from the crash have been reported.
