Fayette County Man Severely Injured in Fatal Head-On Collision in Fayette County, Georgia

May 17, 2018

FAYETTE COUNTY, GA- According to wsbtv.com reports that William Betsill, 42, a father from Fayette County, was seriously injured in a head-on collision caused by a wrong-way driver on May 8, 2018. The other driver was killed in the collision, and Betsill faces a long road to recovery that will involve several more surgical procedures and other medical care. It will likely be months before Betsill will be able to walk.*

According to police, Betsill was returning to work at the time of the collision, which took place on Georgia 85 in Fayetteville. When emergency responders arrived at the scene of the crash, the driver of the other vehicle was already dead, and Betsill was severely injured.

The other driver, Georges Joseph Jr., 26, was reportedly driving north well in excess of the speed limit and passing another driver when he entered Betsill’s southbound lane. Both vehicles were totaled, and were towed to Embrey’s Towing, where the owner, Stanley Turner, was shocked that anyone survived the crash.

Betsill’s injuries include broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and a shattered leg, among other injuries. His doctors doubt he will be released from the hospital and time in the near future.

Betsill’s wife says that she is just thankful that he survived the terrible accident, which she says could have happened to anyone.

While accidents involving wrong-way drivers only make up a small percentage of the total number of fatal collisions in the United States, when these accidents do occur, they are particularly deadly.
