Ohio School Bus Safety Company Announces Winners of Its Safety Superstar Award

HUDSON, OH- According to, the School Bus Safety Company, Inc. has released winners of an award issued to school districts who excel in the area of safety. The School Bus Safety Company, Inc. designs school bus driver training programs with an emphasis on safety for students. The company offers videos about safety on their website and creates Public Service Announcements about driving safely around school buses. The winner of the award was the Kanawha County School District, located in Charleston West Virginia.*

The contest included a month-long gathering of stories from around the country in the Share Your Safety Story initiative. The School Bus Safety Company’s panel of experts reviewed the submissions and chose winners who showed innovative and imaginative approaches to set a new standard for safety in the organization. 

The winning school system serves more than 26,000 students, making it the largest system within West Virginia. The award was given to the schools based on their extensive training program for their drivers. The Kanawha County Schools require that all drivers, mechanics, and aides undergo at least 18 hours of training in their area every year. They conduct a variety of drills and trainings for crisis situations and have meetings about safety twice a week. 

A number of other organizations were recognized for their safety initiatives as well, including the Orange County Public Schools in Florida, the newly appointed safety manager for Hammonds Transportation in Louisiana, the Greenville County Schools in South Carolina, the Hawaii State Department of Education Student Services Branch, and the Marietta City Schools in Georgia.
