Driver Who Struck and Two Women and Baby in Woodstock Facing Charges

May 19, 2018

WOODSTOCK, GA - According to patch.com, 18-year-old Zoe Thomasina Reardon, of Atlanta, is facing charges for striking a mother and her baby, and another woman while they were crossing the street in Woodstock. All three died as a result of their injuries following the accident, which occurred in September 2017.*

Reardon faces “three counts of vehicular homicide in the second degree, two counts of vehicular homicide, distracted driving, failure to yield to a pedestrian in the roadway and use of electronic communication device under the age of 18.” Reardon was 17 at the time of the accident but is currently 18.

On the day of the accident, Reardon was operating her Jeep Patriot and was on her phone when she hit all three victims. Kaitlin Hunt was carrying her three-month-old daughter, Riley Marie Hunt and crossing Arnold Mill Road with Kathleen Mary Deming when they were hit. The infant tragically died in the hospital on the night of the accident, Hunt died three days later, and Deming died ten days after being struck.

Reardon did not use her phone to call emergency services after the crash but instead used it to send a message to her parents. After being booked on Monday, May 14, 2018, Reardon was released on a $10,715 bond.

The accident highlights the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving. Georgia has recently taken actions to reduce the rate of distracted driving in the state. Starting on July 1, 2018, drivers will not be able to use handheld electronic devices while operating vehicles. While the state already had a ban on texting, it was difficult to enforce because drivers could claim they were using their phone for other purposes.
