Avoid Blow-Outs on Your Summer Road Trip

May 15, 2018

NORTH CAROLINA- As summer approaches, reports about the importance of checking your tires before heading off on a road trip. According to a survey conducted of American drivers, over 70% of Americans are planning to take a road trip this summer. While many people do not realize it, the summer months are the most dangerous months to drive.*

It is important to have your tires checked, not just for pressure, but also the depth of the treads, and for unusual wear patterns. Tire inflation can be seriously impacted by changes in the temperature.

In addition to checking how well your tires are faring, you should also be sure to have the correct tires for the season. There are tires that are appropriate for summer driving and rain storms. Having the right tires on your car can make you safer in inclement weather.

Flat tires present a hazard to drivers too. You should always have a spare tire and be sure to check it before you leave too.

High-speed blowouts are frightening and can sometimes cause serious collisions. Even if your tires are in great condition, stay alert behind the wheel and do not push them to speeds that are not safe. According to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, about 90 people are killed every year in traffic accidents that are caused in part by old or aging tires.

According to experts, you should never overload your car. If your car is carrying too much weight, the pressure on the tires increases, and so does the chance of having a blowout. Be sure to have your tires rotated, and properly aligned. This extends the life of the tire and makes them safer. Finally, do not be afraid to ask questions. If you are overwhelmed by tire pressure and gauging the proper levels, ask an expert.
