Men Killed in Rollover Crash on I-75 in Emerson, Georgia Have Been Identified

May 13, 2018

EMERSON, GA- According to patch.com, the identity of two men killed in a rollover collision has been released. 47-year-old Manuel Ramirez Barrita and 33-year-old Cesar Estevez Nunez were both killed at the scene of an accident that occurred on Wednesday morning, May 9, 2018. The collision took place on I-75 north of Red Top Mountain Road at about 6:20 a.m.*

The victims were passengers traveling in a Ford E250 van which was overturned in a crash that involved a tractor-trailer. The driver of the van, Armondo Pompa-Nateras, 40, survived the collision and was taken to Cartersville Medical Center, although he did not have any obvious injuries.

The cause of the crash appears to have been a blown tire in the Ford, which caused the car to spin out of control and then flip. A smaller vehicle lost control and swerved into the lane of a tractor-trailer. The driver of the truck, Rodney Damm, then collided with the vehicle in which the victims were traveling.

The driver of the truck did not sustain any injuries in the accident. Police have stated that Damm was not at fault and that they do not expect any charges to be filed over the accident.

Blown tires cause around 11,000 traffic accidents every year. In 2016, 733 traffic-related fatalities were attributed at least in part to malfunctioning tires, and on average, about 700 people are killed because of faulty tires every year.

The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) advises drivers to remember to be mindful of tire maintenance issues. Driving without the proper amount of air in your tires. Not rotating tires and neglecting to perform proper tire maintenance puts people at a greater risk of having a flat tire, a tire blowout or of having the treads come off their tires.
