UPDATE: Truck Transporting Chickens Overturns on Highway 2 in Varnell, Georgia

Update - WHITFIELD COUNTY, GA – April 29, 2018 (newschannel9.com).  According to an online news report at newschannel9.com, the Georgia State Patrol has indicated that Highway 2 in Varnell is open once again, as the accident has been cleared.*

PREVIOUSLY REPORTED: 

According to local law enforcement, a truck transporting chickens was going down Highway 2 when it was involved in an accident, causing the chickens to spill onto the roadway.  Three people were taken to area hospitals as a result of the crash.

Per the Georgia State Patrol, the truck driver was taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital. Passengers in the other automobile were also transported to local hospitals.  Currently, their condition is not known.

The United States Environmental Protection Agency as well as the Department of Agriculture were involved in the cleanup throughout the night, as fuel and dead chickens were sprawled across the roadway. Highway 2 was closed for many hours as law enforcement and governmental officials worked to clean up the accident scene.

THE ORIGINAL STORY:

According to the Whitfield County dispatch, the Georgia State Patrol is working to investigate an accident that involved a flipped over truck transporting chickens and a passenger van.  The crash occurred on Highway 2 at Lee Bryant Road.

Due to the extensive nature of the accident, it will take numerous hours to clean up the accident scene, as the contents of the truck are sprawled across the roadway.  

Injuries have been reported but it is no further details are available at this time.
