Pedestrian Killed in Collision Outside Savannah Warehouse

SAVANNAH, GA. – April 25, 2018 ( According to an online report by, police are investigating a fatal Savannah pedestrian accident that took place outside a warehouse.*

At approximately 2 a.m. April 25, according to the Savannah Police Department, 51-year-old Lindsay Roof, of Richmond Hill, was walking outside a Dollar Tree warehouse between the Tanger Outlets and Georgia Tech in Savannah. He was reportedly walking between two trailers on the property when he was suddenly struck by a jockey truck. 

The driver of the jockey truck, 54-year-old Abraham Bowen, of Savannah, reportedly was driving on the property and made a U-turn before striking Roof. Bowen dragged Roof with his truck for a short distance before coming to a stop. Roof was transported to Memorial Medical Center where he was tragically pronounced dead. Bowen was not injured. 

The Savannah Police Department’s Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the accident and has not released additional information at this time. It has not yet been determined whether charges will be filed against Bowen in connection with the accident and Roof’s death. 

According to the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, 5,376 pedestrians were killed in U.S. traffic accidents in 2015. This figure represents a 9.5 percent increase from 2014 and accounts for 11 to 15 percent of all national traffic fatalities that year. In the same year in Georgia, 193 pedestrians died in traffic accidents, representing 13.5 percent of all motor vehicle fatalities in the state during 2015. 

Across the nation, approximately 15 pedestrians die every day in vehicle collisions. With walking becoming a more prevalent form of transportation for people, particularly in larger urban areas, pedestrians become more at risk of being involved in traffic accidents.
