Crash in Chatt Hills Causes One Death, Passenger Injured

CHATT HILLS, GA – April 24, 2018 (mdjonline.com)(ajc.com).   According to an online reports from mdjonline.com and ajc.com, a failure to stop at a stop sign leaves one dead and passenger injured.*

Chatt Hills police have requested that the Georgia State Patrol assist in investigating the accident that occurred on Tuesday, April 24, 2017 at approximately 4:45 p.m. at Rivertown Road on South Fulton Parkway.

A spokesperson from the Georgia State Patrol, Captain Mark Perry, notes that drivers travelling on Rivertown Road are the only ones who have stop signs at the intersection.

A woman, Brenda M. Stiggers, aged seventy one, was driving in a Cadillac going northbound on Rivertown Road as two commercial vehicles travelling side by side on South Fulton Parkway was at the corner from the west.  According to Perry, “the crash occurred in the intersection.  According to a witness and driver statements, the driver of the Cadillac failed to stop for the stop sign and entered the north lanes of South Fulton Parkway.  Once in the north lanes, the Cadillac was struck on its driver’s side by both commercial vehicles.”

As a result of the impact of the crash, Stiggers was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.  Perry notes that Stiggers’ passenger, a fifteen year old female, sustained injuries in the crash and as such, was taken to a local hospital for treatment.  The teenager is listed as in critical condition.  The driver of one of the commercial vehicles was also taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The accident remains under investigation. It is not known at this time whether charges are being filed.  No further details are currently available on the crash.
