April 25, 2018

GAINESVILLE, GA – April 23, 2018 (11alive.com).  According to an online news report from 11alive.com, police are still canvasing the area to find a hit and run driver who killed a pedestrian.*

A driver failed to stop and help after striking a pedestrian on Sunday, April 22, 2018 in the 1700 block of Atlanta Highway close to Memorial Park Drive. The passerby was an adult Hispanic man who tragically died at the scene of the crash due to the extent of his injuries. When police were dispatched to the scene, the hit and run driver was not there.

It was another individual who came upon the victim’s body that was lying on the side of the road.  An investigation of the crash reveals that the hit and run driver was going northbound on Atlanta Highway towards Gainesville, Georgia, which is close to the Beaulieu of America flooring plant.

It is believed that the driver was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck or SUV, possibly between the years of 1999 and 2005.

Authorities are trying to find any person who may have witnessed the crash or saw the suspect’s vehicle.  If you have information on the accident, contact the police at 770-535-5163. You can also provide tips by dialing 911.

There are no further details on the crash that are currently available at this time.

According to statistics from the Georgia Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, between 2008 and 2015, there was an unsteady increase in the percentage of pedestrian killed in vehicular accidents in Georgia.  In 2015 alone there were 193 pedestrians killed in Georgia in motor vehicle accidents.  Specifically, pedestrian accidents accounted for 13.5% of all vehicular crashes in the State of Georgia.
