Fatal Four-car Pileup on Belair Road in Columbia County, Georgia

COLUMBIA COUNTY, GA. – March 26, 2018 (wrdw.com) Two victims of a fatal four-car pileup on Belair Road have now been identified, according to a news report by wrdw.com.*

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on February 25, 60-year-old Bernice Andrews Jr., of North Augusta, was driving his Nissan Maxima southbound on Belair Road near Columbia Road. Jonathan Lee Faulk, 55, was in the car with him. Andrews drove across the center turn lane and hit a Ford F-150. Andrews’s Maxima then rotated into the northbound lanes of Belair Road and collided with a Chevrolet Tahoe. Both the Maxima and the Tahoe slid to the opposite side of the road, where at least one of the vehicles hit an additional vehicle, also a Chevrolet Tahoe.

Andrews was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Augusta University Medical Center, where he tragically died from his injuries the following morning. First responders also sadly pronounced Faulk dead at the scene. At this time, it is not clear what caused Andrews to drive into the center turn lane on Belair. The county coroner’s office has also not yet released an exact cause of death for Faulk.

The four vehicles and debris from the accident blocked northbound traffic for several hours, and deputies rerouted drivers onto the southbound lanes. Details about the drivers and passengers of the other vehicles involved are unknown at this time, but no other injuries have been reported. Investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s office is ongoing.

Funeral services were held for Faulk on March 8. An obituary says he was survived by a daughter and three grandchildren. An obituary for Andrews says he was a lifelong resident of Augusta and was survived by several siblings. Funeral services will be held for Andrews on a later date yet to be determined.
