Two Teens Involved in a Fatal Interstate 75 Car Accident in Atlanta, Georgia

ATLANTA, GA. – March 26, 2018 (Patch.com) According to a news report by Patch.com, the Georgia State Patrol has now identified two teens involved in a fatal Interstate 75 car accident on March 26.*

On the morning of March 26, the Morrow Police Department arrived on scene at the accident, which occurred on the northbound side of I-75 at Jonesboro Road in Clayton County. Officers observed a white Mini Cooper off the road near the trees by the Ga. 54/Marrow interchange. Morrow Police contacted the Georgia State Patrol about the collision at approximately 11:40 a.m.

Georgia State Patrol have now identified the driver of the Cooper as 17-year-old Jonesboro resident Cristina Pavon-Baker and the passenger of the car as 18-year-old McDonough resident Makayla Penn. Pavon-Baker was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment for her injuries, but Penn sadly did not survive. First responders, including the Morrow Fire Department, had to extricate Penn from the car and pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to other news reports, the two teenagers were seniors at Community Christian School, where March 26 was “Senior Skip Day.” They were on the way to Southlake Mall and attempting to navigate the curve on the Exit 233 ramp at a high rate of speed. Pavon-Baker lost control of the vehicle, which went airborne, overturned several times, and crashed into two trees.

At this time, the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. No additional information as to the cause of the accident or anticipated charges has been released.

Community Christian School Headmaster Fred Banke asked the community to pray as the school “grieve[d] this devastating loss.” He also requested prayers for Pavon-Baker and for the school’s healing.
