Woman Seriously Injured in One of Two Crashes on I-75 in Houston County, Georgia
HOUSTON COUNTY, GA – March 23, 2018 (macon.com). According to a macon.com news report, on Friday, March 23, 2018, a woman injured in one of two crashes on I-17 was taken by helicopter to hospital in Macon, Georgia.*
At approximately 5:30 a.m., a Margate, Florida man in a Nissan Altima driving in the right lane rolled over into the right shoulder of the interstate, causing him to overcorrect and veer across all lanes, ultimately striking a guardrail. The guardrail pierced through the front passenger side door of the vehicle, causing a woman to be pinned. The woman was seriously injured and airlifted to the Medical Center, Navicent Health. She continues to remain in critical condition.
Two children, additional passengers in the Nissan, were taken to the Medical Center but were released and deemed uninjured. The driver of the Nissan was taken to Houston Medical center, where he was treated for his injuries and ultimately released. All occupants of the Nissan are believed to not have been wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The crash occurred at mile marker 135 and caused two lanes of I-75 to be blocked. The crash remains under investigation.
A second crash occurred at approximately 7:15 a.m. south of the first crash and involved two drivers. A semi-truck was rear-ended by a Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of the Dodge was taken to a local hospital where be was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
