DUI Wreck Results in Long List of Charges for Driver

According to the Gainesville Times, a man is charged with reckless driving, serious injury by motor vehicle, two counts of DUI child endangerment, driving with a revoked or suspended driver's license, expired tag, and a few other traffic violations after a single-vehicle wreck. Four people were in the vehicle, including the driver, and all of them were hurt in the rollover accident. The driver and the two children who were in the vehicle received injuries that were relatively minor, but the other adult passenger was seriously hurt in the wreck.

Car Accidents Resulting from Alcohol Use Cause Injuries and Sometimes Death

Many DUI crashes cause serious injuries, and there are also often fatalities. Drunk driving is a big problem in Georgia, and all across America, for that matter. When a person makes the decision to drink and drive, they take their life into their own hands, as well as the lives of others who share the road with them. When there is a crash, and a driver is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol, they may face criminal charges in addition to civil penalties.

Criminal charges go part of the way towards holding drunk drivers responsible for the injuries and losses that they cause, but they don't help accident victims and their families recover financially for the injuries and losses that they suffered. Fortunately, personal injury attorneys can assist the victims of drunk driving accidents, and their families pursue compensation for their injuries and losses. As is the case with victims and their families after any accidents, the victims of drunk driving accidents must contend with medical bills, lost wages, and a damaged or destroyed vehicle on top of the trauma of losing their loved ones or working through a potentially long and painful recovery process. The process of healing from a severe injury can take a long time. The medical bills from physical therapy and ongoing medical care can add up quickly, especially if someone has to take time off from work until they heal. Fortunately, accident victims and their families can pursue claims for damages based upon medical bills, lost wages, and Pain and Suffering.  Moreover, victims of drunk drivers can usually pursue punitive damages as well.
