Seat Belts Save Lives, Buckle Up!

Two of the three people who sustained injuries in the aforementioned accident got ejected from their vehicles. It is unknown whether either of the people who got thrown from the vehicles was wearing a seatbelt, but drivers and passengers should know that seat belts are the most effective way to prevent serious injuries and deaths from car accidents, mostly because they keep people in their vehicles.

Whenever there is an automobile accident, there's a 75% chance that anyone who gets ejected from the vehicle will die. Individuals who do not wear seatbelts get thrown from vehicles during accidents thirty times more often than people who do wear seatbelts. Seat belt use also reduces the severity of injuries in car accidents, as evidenced by comparing the medical bills from car crash victims who were not wearing seat belts to those of people who were. The medical bills of unbuckled vehicle occupants are approximately 50% higher than the medical bills of people who were wearing their seat belts.

In addition to asking everyone in your vehicle to wear a seatbelt, any driver who transports child passengers must ensure that they get buckled into the proper type of child safety seat for their age and size. Each state has laws regarding child safety seats, and Georgia law requires that children who are younger than eight sit in a car seat made for children of their age, height, and weight. Children over eight years old or taller than four feet nine inches may wear a seat belt instead of using a child safety seat. Kids under eight years of age should also ride in the back seat whenever possible.

Child safety seats or booster seats must be installed properly for them to prevent injuries and death in the event of a crash. If you want to know whether you are using the right seats for your kids, or if the seats that you have are installed correctly, you can stop by many local police departments and fire stations to get it checked out.
