The Jackson Herald Today reports that a fatal accident on I-85 South

November 18, 2016

The Jackson Herald Today reports that a fatal accident on I-85 South occurred after the person who was stopped for a traffic violation attempted to flee police. The Audi A4 was pulled over near mile point 145.

Initially, the vehicle left the interstate at the Jefferson exit. The Audi then entered onto Hwy. 129 North, but then turned onto Interstate I-85 once more, driving in the wrong direction on the southbound side. Police made every attempt to warn on-coming vehicles of the dangers in front of them to avoid any issues.

Officers found the driver of the Audi had tragically perished after the car collided with a Subaru. A resident of Virginia was not strapped in his seatbelt and was killed. The 23-year old had a license that was revoked and several warrants out for his apprehension in his home state. The warrants were all for miscellaneous traffic charges.

Deputies identified illegal drugs and a handgun that was stolen in the car.

The man who was driving the Subaru was taken to a Gainesville medical center for what were thankfully deemed non-life threatening injuries.

An investigation is underway, and a blood test will be performed on the at fault driver to determine whether or not he was under the influence at the time of the accident.

A southbound lane of I-85 was closed to traffic for almost three hours while the investigation took place.
