Whitfield County, Ga., - The Dalton Daily Citizen reported that a tragic car crash took the life of a 14-year-old girl while the driver lies in the hospital with injuries that have left her in critical condition, according to a local news report.* The incident occurred on I-75 North in Whitfield County.
The young teenager's identity had not been known by the Georgia State Patrol. She was thrown from the vehicle after the person navigating lost control and the car slammed into the guard rail along the middle median. It was at that point that the car was then slammed by a semi tractor-trailer, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
All of this happened after 8:30 p.m. near mile point 331, nearly two miles from the Walnut Avenue exit. A state trooper mentioned that the name of the driver was being held back because it is associated with a juvenile's passing.
The officer stated that the vehicle being driven was a red Volkswagen Jetta. It was navigating in the middle lane of I-75 when the driver seemingly lost control. The Jetta then crashed into the median guard rail and then "yawed" a few times before stopping in a lane of travel. The tractor-trailer that was directly behind the Volkswagen could not stop in time before crashing into the car, sending it across the interstate and into the median on the western side of the road.
The truck driver was not injured. According to the reporting officer, an investigation continues regarding the incident, but charges are not likely to be filed.
