According to a news report on pennlive.com and a recall alert published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, more than 500,000 of the 3M Scotch thermal laminators have been recalled. The CPSC's recall announcement states that the affected thermal laminators have a defect that poses a fire hazard. The recalled  3M Scotch thermal laminators were sold online and at Staples, Walmart, Costco, and other retail stores nationwide from April 2014 through October 2022. 3M stated in the recall report that they are aware of nine reports of these thermal laminators "catching on fire." There have been three reports of property damage. However, the company stated they were not aware of any serious injuries. 

3M believes that a safety feature can malfunction, causing sudden fires. The affected thermal laminators are light gray and white in color with gray accents. The affected model numbers are TL1302, TL1302VP, TL1302EF, and TL1302KIT. The word "Scotch" is printed on the unit's front side. The serial numbers and model numbers can be found on a sticker located on the laminator's bottom. The unit's sticker includes the model number TL1302 without letters.
