Two-Vehicle Crash in Platte County, Nebraska, Severely Injures One

COLUMBUS, NEBRASKA - An accident news article published on newschannelnebraska.com reports that a two-vehicle crach in Platte County led to serious injuries.*

The Platte County Sheriff's Office reported that they officers were dispatched to the crash at around 7 PM. The motor vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of 48th Avenue and 53rd Street, just north of Columbus. 

According to the Platte County Sheriff's Office, their accident investigation discovered that a Chevy van, operated by a 61-year-old man from Columbus, was driving southbound on 48th Avenue. At that moment, a Chevy Traverse, operated by a 31-year-old man from Columbus, was traveling northbound along 48th Avenue. At some point, the Chevy Traverse reached the 53rd Street intersection and the two vehicles collided. The two motor vehicles sustained severe front end damage.

The Platte County Sheriff's Office reported that one occupant inside the Chevy van, a 58-year-old Columbus woman, was transported to a local area hospital by Columbus Rescue. Law enforcemcent authorities stated that the accident victim was taken to the hospital by a medical helicopter due to their life-threatening injuries. No other accident victims needed emergency medical care, said law enforcement officials. 

Platte County Sheriff's Office deputies reported that 48th Avenue was closed for an hour and a half so law enforcement could conduct their accient investigation and the clean the accident scene. According to the Platte County Sheriff's Office, their agency was helped by the Columbus Police Department. Alcohol was not likely a cause for the crash. This accident is currently under investigation by the Platte County Sheriff's Office. 

There were no further particulars concerning this accident have been released at this time. All accident eyewitnesses are urged to contact the Platte County Sheriff's Office and provide any helpful information that will assist law enforcement in their investigation. No criminal charges have been reported at this time.
