Driver Charged with DUI After Tragic, Fatal Car Accident in Gwinnett County, Georgia

GEORGIA - An accident news article published on macon.com states that a high school student was tragically killed in a car accident in Gwinnett County, Georgia.*

According to the Gwinnett County Police, the vehicle the girl was riding in crashed into a concrete barrier. The victim was a junior at Mill Creek High School. The Gwinnett County Police reported that the fatal crash occurred on Sugarloaf Parkway near State Route 316.

The accident victim was riding in the front-seat passenger of a pickup truck that was traveling northbound along Sugarloaf Parkway. At some point, the driver, a 21-year-old man, was unable to navigate a ramp and then collided with a concrete barrier. The victim tragically passed away at the scene of the accident, according to the Gwinnett County Police. The pickup driver was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Mill Creek High School officials confirmed her death and offered their deepest condolences to her family. The victim will be remembered for her passion for cheerleading and she was adored by her friends and family.

The 21-year-old pickup truck driver has been criminally charged with failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence, and first-degree vehicular homicide, according to a department spokesperson with the Gwinnett County Police. The Gwinnett County Police have not released his name to the public. There were seven occupants inside the pickup truck, two of whom were transported to a local area hospital with accident-related injuries. Law enforcement authorities reported that the accident is currently under investigation.

The Gwinnett County Police will continue its vehicle accident investigation. The area encircling the crash was shit down as the Gwinnett County Police and EMS managed the accident and assisted the injury victims. There were no additional details concerning the fatal accident released at this time. Accident eyewitnesses are asked to contact law enforcement and provide information that they have about the crash. The name of the victim and those involved in the crash have not been made public at this time.
