Tragic, Deadly Car Accident on Highway 27 in Bainbridge, Decatur County, Georgia

BAINBRIDGE, GEORGIA - A news report published on walb.com states that two people were tragically killed in a severe car accident in Decatur County, Georgia.*

The motor vehicle accident also injured another motorist. According to the Decatur County Sheriff's Office, its deputies were dispatched to a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred art around 5 PM on Highway 27 North near the county line.

The Decatur County Sheriff's Office reported that one witness explained to them that one vehicle was moving at high speed when the car swerved off the highway, struck a tree, and then burst into fire. The report states that a Florida mother and her two daughters were riding in the vehicle. The mother and one of her daughters were tragically killed. The second daughter was air evacuated by helicopter to a Florida burn unit due to the severity of her burn injuries.

The news article also reports that a second motor vehicle occurred along Highway 27 South by Woodhull Road, the Decatur County Sheriff's Office verified. This crash involved a tractor-trailer crash and transpired at approximately 6:30 PM along Highway 27 North. The medical condition of the people involved in that motor vehicle accident is unknown.

The Decatur County Sheriff's Office will continue its fatal motor vehicle accident investigation. The area around the crash scene was shut down for several hours as emergency crews and the Decatur County Sheriff's Office managed the crash and helped the injured. There are no additional details regarding the fatal accident at this time. All witnesses to the accident are urged to provide information that they have about the crash with the Decatur County Sheriff's Office. 

The news agency will update the accident story as they receive additional information. The identities of the crash victims were not made public by the Decatur County Sheriff's Office at this time. The is an active crash investigation underway by the Decatur County Sheriff's Office. 

No criminal charges have been reported at this time.
