Driver Tragically Killed In Rear-End Accident On Cobb Parkway in Cobb County, Georgia
According to a new release published on cobbcountycourier.com, the Cobb County Police Department and the Department's Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P. Unit) are investigating a fatal accident that occurred on Cobb Parkway just north of the EMC Parkway.*
Cobb County Police Department Officer SA Barner stated that at 12:59 PM, a 47-year-old man from Marietta man was heading northbound on Cobb Parkway in his Chevrolet Colorado. He was traveling in the left traffic lane and was approaching stopped traffic. As his Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck approached an International straight truck that was stopped in the Marietta man's traffic lane, the Chevrolet Colorado rear-ended the rear of the International truck. The International truck was being driven by a 52-year-old man from Powder Springs.
According to a public information media release, law enforcement's preliminary accident investigation showed that the front of the Chevrolet struck the rear of the International truck. The Chevrolet then came to an uncontrolled stop and stayed in contact with the International truck's rear bumper.
The Chevrolet Colorado truck driver was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the International truck was not hurt in the crash. This accident is currently under investigation, and all witnesses with information are urged to contact the Cobb County Police Department to share any helpful information they have about this deadly crash.
According to the news report, the STEP Unit investigates serious or fatal traffic accidents. The Selective Traffic Enforcement Unit is also responsible for the enforcement of traffic laws and provides analysis indicating which areas have an elevated amount of crashes. The STEP Unit is also responsible for the administration of the Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program.
