Tragic, Deadly Car Accident on Highway 78 in Walton County, Georgia

October 14, 2022

WALTON COUNTY, GEORGIA - An accident news report states that the Walton County Fire Rescue and Georgia State Patrol responded to a deadly car accident on Highway 78.*

Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League stated that the car accident that transpired by Sardis Church Road had occurred at around 3 AM. This tragic, fatal crash involved a motor vehicle leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree.

The accident report states that there were two people in the vehicle who sustained injuries. Georgia State Patrol worked the accident scene. The age and the name of the crash victim have not been released. Another report states that the victim, a 16-year-old Monroe teenager, tragically died in the crash on Highway 78.

Assistant Commander of Georgia State Patrol Post 46 Sergeant Richard Thacker reported that troopers answered the call at the request of Walton County Sheriff's Office. The teenager was declared deceased at the accident scene. The victim's next of kin was notified. Sergeant Thacker reported that two other Monroe teenagers were taken to Piedmont Walton Hospital for treatment of accident-related injuries.

Sergeant Thacker also stated that their investigation has revealed that the Dodge Charger the teenagers were in may have been traveling too fast on Georgia 10, and the driver lost control. The Dodge Charger then started to rotate and left the road onto the shoulder, where it hit two trees. The accident is currently under investigation. No additional details were released at this time.
