Tragic, Fatal Car Accident on Buford Highway Accident in Forsyth County, Georgia

According to a news story published on, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is reporting on a fatal car accident on Buford Highway in Forsyth County.*

The accident report states that a 43-year-old woman from Cumming was tragically pronounced dead at the accident scene. The crash involved the woman's Hyundai Sonata and an 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck. The crash occurred on Highway 20 by the entrance of Lakeland Plaza.  The crash report states that a Hyundai Sonata was heading west and entered a left-turn traffic lane. At that moment, a Freightliner semi-truck was heading east and, in the right-hand traffic lane on Georgia Highway 20, entered the Lakeland Plaza intersection while the light was green. The Sonata driver allegedly failed to yield to the 18-wheeler truck and turned in front of the semi-tractor-trailer truck. The crash happened at about 9:30 PM last Tuesday, and the crash remains under investigation. 

The report states that eyewitnesses at the accident scene reported that the crash involved a passenger vehicle and an eastbound tractor-trailer truck.

According to the Forsyth County Traffic Specialist Unit, the accident they are investigating will produce more information at a later time. No official statement or accident report was available this evening. 

Traffic in the area continued to flow west on the Buford Highway, but the eastbound and southbound sides were closed for at least two hours. 

No additional information regarding the medical condition of those who were involved in the crash has been released at this time. However, rescuers were found coaxing a black dog, and the dog sustained minor injuries. This accident news story will be updated as new information is released.

The identities of the crash victims were not made public. All crash witnesses are encouraged to contact the Forsyth County Traffic Specialist Unit as soon as possible.
