Severe SUV Accident on the Cobb Parkway in Marietta, Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GEORGIA - According to a news article published on, a portion of Cobb Parkway was shut down following a major car accident.*

The closure affected Cobb Parkway's southbound traffic lanes, where the parkway joins the Canton Road Connector. The motor vehicle accident occurred just before 1:30 PM. Law enforcement officers with the Marietta Police Department at the accident scene stated that they discovered one of the vehicles involved in the crash was overturned vehicle, and the occupants were entrapped inside the car. 

The Marietta Police Department issued a statement that said the serious rollover accident with entrapment shut down all lanes of Cobb Parkway South and the parkway would be blocked for more than an hour. The report also urged drivers to use alternate routes around the crash for at least one hour.

Marietta Police subsequently reported that a Honda Prelude, operated by an 18-year-old, was attempting to make a U-turn at an intersection when the vehicle turned into the path of a GMC Sierra, which was being driven by a 26-year-old. The report states that the GMC Sierra had many occupants in the truck. All passengers in the truck were transported to Wellstar Kennestone hospital with severe injuries, the Marietta Police reported. 

The Marietta Police stated that the accident was so severe that all Southbound lanes of Cobb Parkway were shut down for about three hours. The Marietta Police reported that criminal charges were not filed in the accident at this time, and their accident investigation is currently ongoing.

The names of the car accident victims were not made public at this time. The is an active accident investigation ongoing at this time.
