Tragic, Fatal Head-on Collision in Clayton, Georgia

The crash tragically claimed the lives of two women from Franklin, North Carolina. A 81-year-old woman and a 91-year-old woman passed away in the severe head-on collision on Highway 76 just east of McWorter Lane. They were traveling in a Mercedes Benz sedan.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, one of the accident victims was driving her Mercedes Benz west along GA 2/US 76 when she crossed the median line and collided with an eastbound Ford Ranger pickup truck. The pickup truck came to an uncontrolled stop on the south shoulder of Highway 76. The Mercedes came to an uncontrolled rest in Highway 76's eastbound traffic lane. The two victims were pronounced deceased at the scene of the head-on collision.
The head-on accident also severely injured the driver of the Ford Ranger pickup. He is a 71-year-old man from Clayton. Emergency rescue paramedics life-flighted the accident survivor to Greenville Memorial Hospital for emergency medical treatment of his accident injuries.
Georgia State Patrol troopers from Post 7 in Toccoa are investigating the fatal head-on crash. The names of the accident victims are not being released in this article. The news reporters will update the story as more information is received.
