Wrong-Way Accident in Washington County May Have Involved a Drunk Driving

WASHINGTON COUNTY, GEORGIA - An auto accident news story published on reports that a tragic, fatal car accident in Washington County may have involved a drunk driver.*

The Washington County Sheriff's Office stated that their deputies were investigating the fatal crash. The Washington County Sheriff's Office Facebook page stated that the fatal crash occurred on Highway 88 (Fall Line Freeway) last Saturday night. It was also confirmed that the crash occurred close to the Jefferson County line.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that the fatal crash occurred at around 9 PM Saturday night. A Georgia State Patrol accident report states that the wreck transpired when two vehicles crashed head-on in the westbound traffic lanes along Highway 88. The two drivers involved in the head-on collision tragically passed away.  

Georgia State Patrol troopers reported that a man from Statham, Georgia, was driving in the wrong direction on Highway 88 for about two miles. He then collided with the other vehicle, and troopers reported that they found an open liquor bottle in the wrong-way driver's car. The victim, a man from Sandersville, was tragically killed in the head-on crash.

There is an active fatal crash investigation ongoing at this time, and the news reports will update their story as more information is received. The area around the fatal accident was shut down for several hours as emergency rescue crews and the Georgia State Patrol managed the accident scene and tended to the victims. No additional details concerning the fatal accident have been released at this time.
