Tragic, Fatal Car Accident on Pio Nono Avenue in Macon, Georgia

September 22, 2022

MACON, GEORGIA - A news report published on 13wmaz.com states that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating a severe car accident at the intersection of Pio Nono Avenue with Rocky Creek Road in Macon, Georgia.*

The crash was the result of a police chase between a man and Sheriff's deputies. The police pursuit began shortly after the suspect exchanged gunfire with Sheriff's deputies.

Tragically, one man was killed, and a woman was injured after they were in a collision at the intersection of Rocky Creek Road and Pio Nono Avenue. The suspect was being pulled over by Sherriff's deputies for a traffic violation. According to a media release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the suspect refused to stop and sped away from the Sheriff's deputies. In the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's preliminary investigation, they stated that the driver was identified as a 31-year-old man from Bibb County.

The pursuit was short and ended when the suspect crashed into the intersection of Emery Highway and Coliseum Drive. Law enforcement officers reported that when the suspect left his vehicle, he pointed his gun and shot at Sheriff's deputies. The Sheriff's deputies also returned fire and chased the suspect as he tried to flee the crash on foot. The suspect was captured and arrested. He was transported to a local area hospital. He was examined by medical staff and was released. He was then transported to the Bibb County Detention Center, where he is being held. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation media release also reported that the suspect now faces multiple criminal charges.

Fortunately, no Sherriff's deputies were injured in the incident, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent accident investigation. After the investigation has been finished, this case will be turned over to the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office. The news report states that this incident was the 89th officer involved shooting the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been tasked with investigating in 2022.

No additional details concerning the crash have been released at this time. Accident witnesses are asked to contact the Georgia Bureau of Investigation law enforcement and provide any helpful information.
