Driver Causes a Three-Vehicle Accident in Henry County, Georgia
RIVERDALE, GEORGIA - An accident news report published on 11alive.com states that a driver has been arrested for causing a severe three-vehicle accident with injuries in Henry County, Georgia.*
According to the report, the driver was leading Georgia State Patrol troopers on a high-speed police chase according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety. To end the chase, Georgia State Patrol troopers in pursuit performed two Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuvers on the driver.
Law enforcement authorities in Henry County notified Georgia State Patrol that they were on GA Highway 3 at GA 20 and attempted to pull over a Honda Accord for driving over the posted speed limit. However, the driver would not pull over, and the officers initiated a pursuit of the suspect. The suspect then sped away onto the Bob White Trail overpass in Clayton County. Georgia State Patrol troopers then attempted to perform a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to force the suspect's vehicle to turn 180 degrees. The maneuver caused the vehicle to stall and stop. However, the driver regained control of his vehicle. The Georgia State Patrol troopers then attempted a second PIT maneuver on Frontage Road just 24 seconds after the previous PIT maneuver, but they were unsuccessful.
Law enforcement authorities continued to pursue the suspect northbound on Frontage Road. The suspect then ran a red light at Forest Parkway Drive, and a motorcycle T-boned the vehicle. The report did not disclose how the third vehicle was involved in the motor vehicle accident. The police chase then continued. The driver then turned right off of Forest Parkway and back onto Frontage Road. The pursuing Georgia State Patrol trooper then overtook the suspect's car. The suspect's car then ran off the road while navigating a right curve at Lake Mirror Road and crashed. The driver finally surrendered to troopers without further incident.
A Henry County Sherriff's Office public information officer stated that the charges were filed in their jurisdiction because the initial traffic violation happened in Henry County. According to a Henry County PIO, the suspect faces the following criminal charges:
- Driving under the influence of drugs
- Fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer
- Speeding
- Disregarding a traffic control device
- Willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer
Georgia State Patrol will complete the motorcycle accident investigation. There were no reports concerning the medical status of the motorcyclist. Motorcycle accident eyewitnesses are asked to contact the Henry County PIO to provide any helpful information that they may have.
