Bus Accident Closes Down Wrightsboro Road in Grovetown, Georgia

August 18, 2022

GROVETOWN, GEORGIA - A news report published on states that a bus crashed into a gas pump and six motor vehicles in what is described as a major accident.*

The bus accident shut down traffic on a main thoroughfare in Grovetown, Georgia. The motor vehicle accident was reported at approximately 12:20 PM.

According to Police Chief Jamey Kitchens, a Horizon Bus Lines charter bus that was not carrying passengers was heading westbound along Wrightsboro Road. As the bus approached the intersection of Horizon South Parkway and Katherine Street, the bus crossed the median and into oncoming traffic. As a result, the bus collided with several vehicles before entering a Chevron gas station parking lot. The bus then crashed into a gas pump before crossing the parking lot and coming to a stop.

The reason why the bus crossed the median is not known at this time.

Eyewitnesses stated that they saw the bus driver slumped over just before the accident. It is thought that the bus driver fell asleep while driving. Two people were transported to local area hospitals for non-life-threatening injuries. The bus driver was ticketed for failure to maintain the lane.

The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that traffic did not move between Robinson Avenue and Katherine Avenue until 1:10 PM. This was the second bus accident in two days. The other bus accident occurred in Augusta. That school bus accident took the life of a 45-year-old man.
