30 Injured in Legoland Rollercoaster Accident in Germany

August 12, 2022

According to an online news report published on WashingtonPost.com, over thirty people were seriously injured in an accident at a Legoland park in Germany last Thursday.*

The report states that two rollercoaster cars at the park collided on a track, causing injuries to more than thirty people. The park's owners shut down the ride and evacuated the people from the premises.

The  Legoland rollercoaster accident occurred on the Feuerdrache (Fire Dragon) rollercoaster attraction at approximately 1:45 PM. One rollercoaster train was stopped by the front of the attraction's entrance, and a second train did not stop and crashed into the first train.

Right now, it is not known why the second train failed to stop. Legoland ported that the ride would be shut down "for the time being," and the park would reopen on Friday. Law enforcement investigators stated that a criminal investigation had been initiated. This accident was the second rollercoaster crash in Germany in the past few weeks. One week ago, a 57-year-old woman was tragically killed after she fell out of her seat on a rollercoaster at the Wild & Freizeitpark Klotten amusement park. She fell twenty-six feet when her rollercoaster car whipped around a turn.

The Legoland accident involved a total of 38 passengers who were riding on the two coaster trains. 31 of the accident victims sustained injuries and were treated on-site by doctors and paramedics. Fourteen were taken to a local hospital.

The rollercoaster at Legoland was open to riders ages eight and older or accompanied passengers six years or old. The ride's maximum speed was 35 mph, and reached a maximum height of 52 feet.
