Tragic, Fatal Head-On Collision on Highway 17 in Georgia
GEORGIA - A news report published on nowhabersham.com states that a passenger in a Jeep Renegade tragically passed away due to accident-related injuries.*
The car accident occurred on Saturday afternoon. The head-on collision severely injured the drivers involved. According to the report, the head-on collision occurred on Highway 17 close to the City of Clarkesville.
The victim, a 22-year-old man, tragically passed away shortly after emergency medical services medics took him to a local area hospital, officials reported. The victim was riding inside a Jeep Renegade that a 24-year-old woman from Gainesville drove.
Georgia State Patrol verified eyewitness accounts that one of the drivers ran a stop sign at the intersection of GA Highway 17 and the Habersham Mill Road Connector. The Jeep was hit head-on by a Ford F150 driven by a 61-year-old man from Clarkesville.
One of the victims sustained severe leg and abdominal injuries. The other victim suffered lower leg injuries. The Habersham Emergency Medical Services transported all three victims to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for emergency medical treatment. The Habersham County E-911 sent emergency crews to the accident scene at around 4:18 PM after residents called 911 to report the accident.
The impact forces of the accident caused the truck to spin, and the Jeep rolled over and went down an embankment.
A witness and another man rushed to the accident scene. They flipped the car over and made sure the victims stayed conscious until the medics arrived. The two people inside the Jeep were entrapped. First responders arrived 30 minutes later to free the victims from the wreckage, Habersham County Emergency Services Captain Matt Ruark reported.
Rescue crews and law enforcement arrived from several agencies in Clarkesville, Demorest, and Habersham. A Georgia State Patrol Post 7 trooper investigated the accident. Highway 17 traffic was backed up in both directions by the crash site while tow trucks and emergency crews worked to clear the crash debris.
